During 2017 MTV Movie and TV Awards, Gad was asked about The Penguin rumor and he said that he was only 'having some fun' when posting a cryptic The Penguin image earlier this month.

AceShowbiz - Josh Gad finally responded to the rumor which said that he would possibly portray The Penguin in future DC movies. Speaking to MTV News at 2017 MTV Movie and TV Awards, the "Beauty and the Beast (2017)" actor explained that he only wanted to have fun when posting a cryptic image of The Penguin on his Twitter account earlier this month.

"Just having some fun," Gad said. "Just having some fun! Really, I promise! There's nothing to...there's no there there. The internet just goes wild. I'm just having some fun putting things out there," he added.

Gad went on saying that he hadn't even met Matt Reeves, who will direct Ben Affleck-starring "The Batman". However, Gad admitted that he would love playing The Penguin in the movie. "I would absolutely love to play The Penguin in the 'Batman' movie...there's nothing more we need to talk about. It's all...we'll see. You know, it's all we'll see. Putting it out into the ether!"

Earlier this month, Gad tweeted an uncaptioned image of The Penguin, sparking speculation that he might be on board to play the famous villain from Batman flicks. Fans later tried to find out whether Gad secretly had connections with DC entertainment and they found that executives from the studio, such as Jon Berg and Geoff Johns, had followed Gad over the last few months.

In the comics, The Penguin, who is also known as Oswald Cobblepot, is depicted as a Gotham City mobster. The description in DC site reads, "This is a villain fueled by a pathological rage that compels him to turn his odd physique, bird-like profile and awkward waddle into a well-dressed force for fear." The Penguin always gladly welcomes the opportunity to bring down Batman.

Some actors who portrayed The Penguin in the past included Burgess Meredith and Danny DeVito. DeVito's The Penguin was the main antagonist of Tim Burton's "Batman Returns", in which DeVito starred alongside Michael Keaton (Batman) and Michelle Pfeiffer (Catwoman).
