Cowell says he's asked to be a part of the new 'Idol' on ABC but he has 'no interest' in coming back to the show.

AceShowbiz - Simon Cowell won't return as a judge on the upcoming "American Idol" revival. The music producer says he was approached to join the revamped show but he turned down the offer. "I was asked to do it, and the answer is no," he told Extra.

"I have no interest. My memories are when we first started. It was a different time with Randy [Jackson], Ryan [Seacrest] and Paula [Abdul]. You can't recreate that," he said. "Last time I watched, it was not the same show, just the same name. I left for a reason and I never regretted that."

After canceled by FOX in 2016, "American Idol" is being brought back by ABC for 2017-2018 season. The original host Ryan Seacrest is reportedly in talks to return to the show. He has just landed a gig as Kelly Ripa's co-host, but she has given him permission to accept the "Idol" job. Kelly Clarkson, the "Idol" winner from the first season, was rumored to be a judge on the show but she was announced to join "The Voice" as a coach instead.
