The CW has renewed 'The Originals', a spin-off to 'The Vampire Diaries', for a season 5, while 'iZombie' will head into its season 4.

AceShowbiz - The CW has renewed "The Originals" and "iZombie" for the 2017-2018 TV season. "The Originals" will head into its fifth season, while "iZombie" has scored a season 4 renewal.

The two series didn't receive early pickups by the network back in January as The CW seemingly wanted to examine their performances this season before deciding. It seems like both have satisfied the network, though episode counts for the new seasons are currently unknown.

"The Originals" serves as the spin-off to "The Vampire Diaries" and follows Joseph Morgan's Klaus Mikaelson and his family in New Orleans. Also starring on the series are Daniel Gillies, Phoebe Tonkin, Charles Michael Davis, Yusuf Gatewood and Riley Voelkel. Julie Plec creates the series as well as executive produces alongside Leslie Morgenstein.

The series pulls in an average 0.3 rating in adults 18-49 and 972,000 viewers per episode. It sees a slight increase in total viewers compared to season 3, though the rating in key demo decreases by 11|percent|.

"iZombie", meanwhile, is based on the characters from DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint. Rose McIver stars alongside Malcolm Goodwin, Rahul Kohli, Robert Buckley, David Anders and Aly Michalka. Halfway through season 3, "iZombie" is averaging a 0.3 rating and 905,000 viewers per episode.

"iZombie" and "The Originals" join other returning series which include "Arrow", "DC's Legends of Tomorrow", "The Flash", "Supergirl", "Jane the Virgin", "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" and "Supernatural". Freshman series "No Tomorrow" and "Frequency", on the other hand, were canceled by the network.
