AceShowbiz - FOX has handed out a series order to "The Gifted", a TV series based on Marvel's "X-Men", for 2017-2018 season. Alongside the announcement, the network also unveils the first teaser for the series, while the full trailer is scheduled to be released later on Monday, May 15.

The teaser opens with two kids, Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) and her brother Andy (Percy Hynes White), experimenting with their newfound abilities. Lauren shows her telekinetic abilities to Andy by pilfering a vending machine. But later it shows that the vending machine somehow explodes in front of the two kids.

The teaser also offers glimpses of Stephen Moyer's Reed Stucker and Amy Acker's Caitlin Stucker, the parents of the "gifted" kids. Caitlin can be seen saying to someone off-screen, "This is a burden. It's also a gift." Meanwhile, Clarice Fong a.k.a. Blink (Jamie Chung) is briefly glimpsed as she is opening a portal, seemingly to help the family in their run. The teaser also gives the first look at Lorna Dane a.k.a. Polaris (Emma Dumont), "a strong-willed, brave and loyal mutant who has the ability to manipulate magnetism."

Bryan Singer directed the pilot. Matt Nix ("Burn Notice") served as showrunner, writer as well as executive producer alongside Bryan, Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Marvel Television's Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory.

"The Gifted" also stars Sean Teale as Eclipse/Marcos Diaz, Blair Redford as Thunderbird/John Proudstar and Coby Bell as Jace Turner. The series follows a human couple, Reed and Caitlyn, who discover that their children are mutants. They are later forced to go on the run from the government, joining an underground network of mutants and must fight for their survival.

It is currently unknown when "The Gifted" will premiere on the network as well as how many episodes it will have. FOX is expected to announce the details on Monday, May 15 at the network's upfront presentation.
