'Hellboy' R-Rated Reboot in the Works With David Harbour and Neil Marshall

'Stranger Things' actor Harbour is in talks to star as the titular character, while Marshall is attached to direct the project which won't bring back Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman.

AceShowbiz - While Guillermo del Toro has ruled out the possibility of "Hellboy 3", Millennium Films plans to resurrect the character. The company is in negotiations with producers Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin to bring back the character to the big screen in a new installment that would reboot and relaunch the property.

Mike Mignola, who created the original "Hellboy" comic, took to Facebook on Monday, May 8 to announce that the new installment is eyed as an R-rated movie with Neil Marshall ("The Descent", "Game of Thrones") on board to direct. "Stranger Things" star David Harbour, meanwhile, is in talks to star as Hellboy.

Marshall is developing a new script with Aron Coleite ("Heroes", "Star Trek: Discovery"). He will also serve as producer with his partner Marc Helwig. The project currently has a working title of "Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen".

The Hollywood Reporter reports that neither original director del Toro nor original star Ron Perlman will be involved in the reboot. According to the site, producers decided that a reboot and relaunch was more feasible after failing to come to an agreement with del Toro about the planned movie's budget.

The first "Hellboy" was released in 2004 and collected $99.4 million worldwide against a budget of $66 million. The sequel, "Hellboy II: The Golden Army", was released in 2008 and received positive reviews from critics. It grossed over $160 million, against a budget of $85 million.
