'Avatar' Sequels Cast 'Fear the Walking Dead' Star Cliff Curtis in Lead Role

Curtis joins returning cast members Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington and Sigourney Weaver in the long-awaited sequels to James Cameron's 2009 hit movie.

AceShowbiz - The "Avatar" on-screen crew will be joined by a new face in its upcoming sequels. "Fear the Walking Dead" star Cliff Curtis has signed up for all four follow-ups to James Cameron's 2009 blockbuster movie in a lead role.

According to Deadline which first reported the casting, Curtis will play Tonowari, "who is the leader of the Metkayina, the reef people clan." He joins returning cast members which include Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang.

Release dates for all four sequels were recently announced via the official Facebook page for the movie. "Great to be working with the best team in the business! Avatar takes flight as we begin concurrent production on four sequels," read the announcement, "The journey continues December 18, 2020, December 17, 2021, December 20, 2024 and December 19, 2025!"

Production is set to begin at Wellington's Stone Street Studios next year. The sequels are written by Cameron along with Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno. Cameron will direct the movies.

Curtis portrays a lead character named Travis on "The Walking Dead" spin-off, "Fear the Walking Dead". He starred in "The Piano" (1993), "Once Were Warriors" (1994) and played the lead role in "The Dark Horse" (2014).
