'Star Trek: Discovery' Adds 'Battlestar Galactica', 'Jericho' Stars and More

The upcoming CBS series adds more Klingons and Starfleet officers by casting Shazad Latif, Rekha Sharma, Kenneth Mitchell, Clare McConnell and Damon Runyan.

CBS All Access has announced five additional cast members of its upcoming "". Among the newly added actors are Shazad Latif, Rekha Sharma, Kenneth Mitchell, Clare McConnell and Damon Runyan.

"" star Latif has been tapped to play Lieutenant Tyler, a Starfleet officer in the Federation. Latif was initially cast as Kol, which is now played by Mitchell.



Sharma, meanwhile, will portray Commander Landry, the security officer of the Starship Discovery. Sharma previously starred on " and "". Mitchell ("Jericho", "", "") takes over Latif's initial role as Kol, a commanding officer in the Klingon empire.

Also joining the cast are McConnel ("Dim the Fluorescents") and Runyan ("", "", "Gangland Undercover") who are cast as Dennas and Ujilli, respectively. Dennas is the leader in the Klingon Empire, while Ujilli is the leader in the Klingon Empire.

The stars will join the previously announced cast members, including Sonequa Martin-Green, , Mary Wiseman, Terry Serpico, , Sam Vartholomeos, , , , Anthony Rapp, Chris Obi, Mary Chieffo and .

"Star Trek: Discovery" is a prequel to the original "Trek" series, set about 10 years before Captain Kirk's five-year mission. The new series will feature a new ship, new characters and new missions, while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers.

The production of "Star Trek: Discover" has begun in January for its scheduled premiere on CBS later this year. All new episodes of the series will later be available on CBS All Access.
