Fincher may direct 'World War Z 2' and should the deal be closed, the director may reunite with Pitt after their collaboration in 'Se7en', 'Fight Club' and 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button'.

AceShowbiz - Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions seemingly are moving forward with "World War Z" sequel "World War Z 2". Thanks to Paramount's new CEO Jim Gianopulos, it looks like the project has found a director as well. Variety reports that acclaimed director David Fincher is likely to direct the zombie-centered film, with Brad Pitt returning to star. If everyhing falls into place, the filming is expected to be done in early 2018.

"World War Z 2" was yanked from its release schedule last year, as Pitt had to deal with his divorce from Angelina Jolie. However, it seems like things are back into track. Fincher is currently in the process of making a deal, replacing Juan Antonio Bayona, who exited the project and currently directs "Jurassic World 2".

Should the deal be closed, "World War Z 2" will mark another Fincher-Pitt collaboration. The director and actor previously teamed up in critically acclaimed "Se7en", "Fight Club" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button".

Like Pitt, Gianopulos, who previously was a chairman of 20th Century Fox, also has a long standing relationship with Fincher. The director helmed 20th Century Fox's "Gone Girl", which was released in 2014.

Fincher's other directorial credits include "The Game", "Panic Room", "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", "The Social Network" and TV series "Mindhunter". He is also known for directing music videos for acclaimed musicians such as Madonna, Aerosmith and George Michael.
