The movie, which was initially scheduled to be released on October 20, has been pushed back to a January 5, 2018 slot.

AceShowbiz - Fans of "Insidious" movie series seemingly have to wait a little longer for "Insidious Chapter 4". The fourth installment of the "Insidious" movie series, which was initially scheduled to be released on October 20, has been pushed back to a January 5, 2018 slot.

"Insidious 4" original slot, meanwhile, is now occupied by "Half to Death". The horror comedy flick centers on a college student who investigates her own murder in order she can find her killer. Both "Insidious 4" and "Half to Death" come from Jason Blum's Blumhouse production company, which previously nailed it with "The Purge" and "Get Out".

With the new release date, "Insidious 4" needs not to worry about contenders, as big movies such as "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" and "Pitch Perfect 3" will be released a few weeks prior to that.

"Insidious 4" will see the return of Lin Shaye as Dr. Elise Rainier. Leigh Whannel is set to pen the script, with Blum, Oren Peli and James Wan producing. The movie will be directed by Adam Robitel, who previously directed "The Taking of Deborah Logan".

The first "Insidious" movie was said to be the most profitable film of 2011, as it gained $97 million worldwide against its $1.5 million budget. The second movie, which was released in 2013, repeated its predecessor's success by gaining $161.9 million globally. The third movie was released in 2015 and grossed $113 million worldwide.
