Fans of the 'American Beauty' star wonder if he's dead or just coming out when they see the actor is trending on Twitter, though it turns out to be something fans can be relieved about.

AceShowbiz - On Tuesday, April 18 morning, Kevin Spacey was trending on Twitter, making fans wonder what makes the "American Beauty" star trend on the microblogging site. The bad events in 2016 taught people that being a trending topic was not necessarily a good thing, thus fans made some wild guesses regarding the matter.

Some fans were so panicked seeing their favorite actor in the trending topic, thinking that Kevin was dead. "@KevinSpacey I THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD," wrote a worried fan. Meanwhile, @osk_mc wrote, "When I saw Kevin Spacey trending I got scared. I hope is not #dead stop playing with my emotion #twitter."

Some Twitter users assumed that the trending was related to the "House of Cards" star's sexuality. Kevin had long dodged to address his sexuality in the public, making fans think that the actor was ready to let the cat out of the bag this time. "*sees Kevin Spacey trending* *thinks to self: oh great. is he dead or gay?*" tweeted @PaulaInKansas.

However, fans can breathe a sigh of relieve since Kevin is still alive and kicking. It turns out that he was trending since he was tapped to host the 2017 Tony Awards as CBS announced on Tuesday, much to fans' excitement. The 71st Annual Tony Awards will be telecast live on the network on June 11 from Radio City Music Hall.

"I was their second choice for 'Usual Suspects', fourth choice for 'American Beauty' and 15th choice to host this year's Tony Awards," Kevin joked in a statement. He continued, "I think my career is definitely going in the right direction. Maybe I can get shortlisted to host the Oscars if everyone else turns it down."

"We're excited to be working with a witty and charming host who is not only a Tony-winning actor and fan of live theater, he's also a president who is a true champion of the arts," said executive producers Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner, referencing Spacey’s role on Netflix's "House of Cards".

This marks Kevin's debut as a host at the award-giving event. Kevin previously nabbed Tony Award in 1991 for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his performance in Neil Simon's "Lost in Yonkers".

Now that fans know the truth, they take to Twitter to express their relief. "When you see Kevin Spacey trending and see he's still alive," @OutsandingWC tweeted while attaching a funny GIF of Robert Downey Jr. breathing a sigh of relief. @Winged_Leo, on the other hand, admitted that he had his blood pressure increased prior to knowing the truth.
