Report says that Rihanna, who impresses viewers with her appearance on 'Bates Motel', has 'major potential' to star in a movie like 'The Matrix'.

AceShowbiz - After impressing viewers with her performance on "Bates Motel", Rihanna is reportedly eyed for a lead role in the rumored "The Matrix" reboot. A source told Daily Star that Rihanna had "major potential" to star in the movie.

"Rihanna is a global star who's sold millions around the world. Movie producers know she has a lot of untapped potential as far as films are concerned and are eager to have her on board," said the source. "Rihanna's team are elated and are open to discussions as they see major potential in her being tied to a movie like 'The Matrix'. It'd be a win-win for all," the source added.

Rihanna recently guest-starred on A&E's "Bates Motel", playing a character named Marion Crane. She will next be seen in sci-fi flick "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" and "Ocean's Eight".

Contrary to the reboot rumors, screenwriter Zak Penn, who was reportedly tapped to pen the possible reboot, suggested that there wouldn't be any reboot for "The Matrix". According to Birth.Movies.Death., Warner Bros. indeed was "not interested in rebooting 'The Matrix'." Rather, it would explore "expanded universe concepts." Sources told the site that new "The Matrix" movie might come in the form of a prequel centering on young Morpheus, who was portrayed by Laurence Fishburne in the original movie.

Starring Keanu Reeves, "The Matrix" became the highest grossing R-rated film in North America back in 1999, earning $463.5 million worldwide. It also nabbed four Oscars which included the accolades for Best Film Editing, Best Sound, Best Sound Effects Editing and Best Visual Effects.
