Celebs have been taking to Twitter to comment on the POTUS' action after he ordered the launch of nearly 60 Tomahawk cruise missiles on Syria in response to this week's deadly chemical gas attack.

AceShowbiz - President Donald Trump has ordered a military strike against Syria. In response to a deadly chemical gas attack earlier this week, the POTUS announced on Thursday, April 6 that the U.S. had launched 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles on an airfield in Syria from which the chemical attack was launched on civilians.

The airstrike is the first direct military action the United States has taken against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad after he seemed to order the gas attack in Syria that killed dozens of people. The POTUS ordered the missile attack on the Syrian government airbase where the warplanes carrying out the chemical attacks were based.

Speaking from his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, the 70-year-old president told reporters that he had approved the military strike. "It is in this vital national security interest of the United States to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons," the president said.

In the wake of the airstrike news, celebrities and politicians expressed their thoughts on social media. Hollywood stars like Kerry Washington, Lena Dunham, Patricia Arquette and George Takei as well as television personality Rosie O'Donnell tweeted their reactions upon learning Trump's action.

"Wait. What?! Heart breaking. #Syria," Washington wrote. "Hadnt seen the news. The only thing to tweet right now is a prayer for peace and safety," Dunham said.

Arquette, meanwhile, hoped "this better not dovetail into war with Iran." Former "Star Trek" actor Takei tweeted, "Trump on Syria: 'No child of God should suffer such horror.' BUT NO WAY, NOPE. THEY CAN'T COME HERE."

O'Donnel, who has been involved in a longtime feud with the Trump family, wrote in all-caps, "I MEAN COME ON - REALLY? WOULD I BOMB SYRIA IF I WERE IN BED WITH PUTIN? NO WAY & MAN DID I BOMB THEM - BIGLY - I HATE RUSSIA - TRUST ME."

Among those opposing the military strike on Syria were Senator Rand Paul, Senator Elizabeth Warren and former vice presidential candidate Senator Tim Kaine. "The President needs Congressional authorization for military action as required by the Constitution," Paul tweeted. "Our prior interventions in this region have done nothing to make us safer and Syria will be no different."

Warren issued a lengthy statement, in which she said, "Expanded military intervention in Syria requires action by Congress. If President Trump expects such an authorization, he owes the American people an explanation of his strategy to bring an end to the violence in Syria." Kaine wrote, "President waging military action against Syria without a vote of Congress? Unconstitutional."
