Celebrity

The 'Like a Virgin' singer posts a sarcastic photo on her Instagram account that implies her support for Coca Cola instead of Pepsi.

AceShowbiz - Madonna posted a photo of her wearing a red dress while holding a can of Coca Cola after Pepsi's recent ad controversy. She even provided a clearer picture of the Coca Cola can on her hand beside the original full-body photo. The singer only captioned the photo with a gold medal emoji, implying that Coca Cola is the "winner" brand.

The reason behind Madonna's shade was probably the fact that she had conflicts with Pepsi back in 1989 when the ad she starred in also became controversial. Madonna had signed an exclusive contract with the soft drink company, which led her to star in a two-minute ad that featured her singing and dancing. A day after that, Madonna's own "Like a Prayer" music video that included burning crosses and stigmata was released by MTV.

Many people thought that the full-length "Like a Prayer" music video was a part of the singer's Pepsi ad. Religious groups and Vatican weren't pleased and threatened to ban Pepsi. This caused the company to pull the ad and cancel their contract with Madonna.

Besides the 58-year-old singer, other celebrities have expressed their disappointment toward Pepsi. Lena Dunham, Patton Oswalt and Russell Brand took to Twitter to give their opinions on the matter. Dunham tweeted, "Assuming everything that can be said about faux-test Pepsi ad has been said so I'm just gonna go with this: it didn't make me want Pepsi." Actor Adam Scott shared his opinion as well, but he seemed to have deleted the particular tweet.

Brand reacted by tweeting his thoughts along with a quote. He tweeted, "I suppose this is why the Pepsi commercial is a bit troubling, from Micheal Meade."

Oswalt addressed the issue in a funnier way by saying, " 'Guess we should have set the commercial at a protest outside an abortion clinic.' - Pepsi executives." His followers responded by tweeting "continuation" of Oswalt's "story."
