New report suggests that the co-owners of the long-running singing competition series can't reach an agreement whether they will air the reboot on FOX or NBC.

AceShowbiz - Fans of "American Idol" may have to wait another year as the show is unlikely to be gracing the small screen in 2018. Despite the fact that FOX and NBC show interest in resurrecting the show, the co-owners, FreeMantle and CoreMedia, fail to come to an agreement about which offer they should accept.

According to TMZ, "a tug of war between co-owners of the show torpedoed the deals." Rumor has it that the problem lies on FreeMantle's connection to NBC.

NBC reportedly is planning to rotate "American Idol" with its two other shows, "The Voice" and "America's Got Talent" which are both owned by FreeMantle. Sources tell the site that FreeMantle is "pushing hard to pressure CoreMedia into agreeing to accept the NBC offer."

However, CoreMedia feels that it is a conflict of interest. The company thinks that FreeMantle is only wanting to "make 'AGT' the cornerstone of a year-round talent competition," rather than focusing on what would be best for "Idol". Sources claim, "The Core execs felt Fremantle was trying to diminish the unique value of 'Idol'."

The clash opinion between the two companies leads them to not getting back to either FOX or NBC on their offers. TMZ further reports that "all the negotiations have been shelved."

"American Idol" ran for 15 seasons on FOX, before concluding its most recent season 15 in 2016. Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Jordin Sparks are among huge stars who were born through the show. Hosted by Ryan Seacrest, the show also featured several big names, including Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, Simon Cowell, Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey, as panel judges.
