First Gloomy Footage of 'Annihilation' Is Screened at CinemaCon
Movie

The sci-fi film footage features Natalie Portman's character who finds her husband very strange after returning from a mysterious mission.

AceShowbiz - The first footage of Natalie Portman-starring "Annihilation" was screened at CinemaCon on Tuesday, 28 March. Based on Jeff VanderMeer's sci-fi novel of the same name, the movie follows a biologist and her dangerous expedition in a disaster zone, where laws of nature don't apply.

The trailer begins with Portman's character emotionally welcoming her husband (Oscar Isaac) who had been missing in a mission for 12 months. After returning, he isn't quite the same person anymore, as he looks impassive and barely makes any response when his wife kisses him. When she asks him to tell her about his mission, he only replies, "I don't know where it was, or what it was."

The husband clearly is not okay, for he is spitting blood soon after. An ambulance is called and he is taken to the hospital.

The scene switches to a part where Portman's character looks at her dead husband in an institution. She later learns that there is an area in the U.S. where mysterious phenomenon happens and no one ever returns from the place, except for her husband. She decides to join a mission with an anthropologist, a psychologist and a surveyor to investigate the place.

"Annihilation" is directed and penned by Alex Garland. Also starring in the movie are Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson, Gina Rodriguez, David Gyazi and Sonoya Mizuno. The movie is set to hit U.S. theaters sometime this year.
