'Pretty Little Liars' Boss on the Ending: No One Can Get Happy Ending Without Some Struggle
TV

Series creator I. Marlene King promises 'the main reveal, which is so crazy,' while executive producer Joseph Dougherty says that 'you have to earn your happy ending.'

AceShowbiz - "Pretty Little Liars" is closer than ever to its endgame when it returns for the final episodes this summer. On Saturday, March 25, cast members Ashley Benson, Tyler Blackburn, Shay Mitchell, Andrea Parker, Janel Parrish, Sasha Pieterse and Ian Harding were joined by creator I. Marlene King, along with executive producer Joseph Dougherty to talk about season 7B at the show's PaleyFest panel.

Audience at the event got a sneak peek at the first seven minutes of the 7B premiere. It picks up moments after the midseason finale, with Spencer, who was shot in the last episode, in an ambulance. The rest of the Liars arrive at the hospital around the same time Toby arrives there, too.

King called the final 10 episodes "love letter to the fans." She promised "the main reveal, which is so crazy." Parrish went on dishing, "Of the last 10, there is a really big reveal at the end of every episode. You're going to find out who killed Jessica DiLaurentis, who A.D. is - all of the answers."

The cast also teased the emotional finale. "We were all crying," Parrish recalled her reaction to finding out the ending at the table read. Blackburn was "stoked," and Mitchell was "blown away," - but Harding found it hard to believe. "I read it and I was like, I don't buy this," he admitted. "It was until we had shot and wrapped... I was driving home on my last day, slightly teary-eyed, and it landed on me, who and what this whole thing was, and I kind of went, [gasps], like, in the car, in traffic."

We have so much LOVE for this squad. Missing you, @LucyHale + @sleepinthegardn. 🖤 #PaleyFest #PLLatPaleyFest

Fans have been shipping Emily and Alison and King teased more Emison moment in the final episodes. "Alison sort of hasn't dealt with her sexuality, and these [remaining] episodes are about Alison trying to figure out what her sexuality is - and Emily plays a big part of that," she promised.

Here's @shaym playing the role of Hanna. 😂 #PaleyFest #PLLatPaleyFest

Speaking of the ending, King said, "All the endgames will be endgames, but nobody's going to get there super easily." Dougherty, meanwhile, hinted that there would be more pain or sacrifice as he said, "Without hurdles, the prize isn't worth anything. So many fans simply say, 'Why can't they just be happy?' And who wants to see that? We have to have some struggle here. You have to earn your happy ending."

Lucy Hale and Troian Bellisario, who couldn't join their co-stars at the panel, greeted their fans in video messages posted on the show's official Instagram account.

Unfortunately, our little @LucyHale couldn't be at #PaleyFest in Los Angeles today. But she left us the sweetest message. 🖤 #PLLatPaleyFest
