New report states that FOX's upcoming 'X-Men'-related pilot is calling for extras as SS soldiers, which are assumed to refer to Nazi paramilitary group Schutzstaffel.

AceShowbiz - Following the previous behind-the-scenes photo which made its way online a few days ago, more details about the upcoming "X-Men"-related pilot "The Gifted" have surfaced online. A new report suggests that FOX's project may go back to the era of World War II.

The speculation stems from a call for extras posted last week on Legacy Casting. It is stated that Legacy is looking for extras as SS Guards for a show which is described as "Untitled Marvel Pilot." The filming location stated on the site also matches the previously-reported pilot's filming set, Dallas, Texas.

Many assume that SS Guards may refer to Schutzstaffel, the Nazi paramilitary group who was responsible for running concentration and extermination camps during World War II. The group was also behind Nazi Germany's racial policies.

The recent announcement that Emma Dumont was cast as Lorna Dane a.k.a. mutant Polaris is also speculated to be related to the current report. In Marvel Comics, Polaris is a daughter to Magneto, the Master of Magnetism and an Auschwitz survivor. Perhaps, WW II will be featured during a flashback to Magneto's backstory when Polaris recalls her father's life in the camp.

Time-traveling mutant Sentinel is also reported to be the villain in the pilot. Thus, it could mean that the series will involve time travel to the World War II. Nothing of this speculation has been confirmed though, since SS may refer to something else entirely.

Developed by Matt Nix, "The Gifted" chronicles Caitlin (Amy Acker) and Reed Stewart (Stephen Moyer), two human parents who discover that their children are mutants. They are later forced to go on the run from the government, joining an underground network of mutants and must fight for their survival. Natalie Alyn Lind will play a character named Lauren, one of Amy and Stephen's kids and presumably a mutant.

Nix and Singer will serve as executive producers alongside Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Jim Chory and Jeph Loeb. Directed by Bryan Singer, the pilot stars Percy Hynes White, Sean Teale, Blair Redford and Jamie Chung.

"The Gifted" filming is currently underway in Dallas.
