In the 100 th episode, 'a torn Olivia wonders how different her life - and the country - would be if she, Mellie and Cyrus had never rigged Fitz's election.'

AceShowbiz - "Scandal" is the next show to tackle alt-reality theme. The 100th episode of the political drama series will be a "What-If"-themed episode, similar to what "Grey's Anatomy" did in season eight with its "If/Then" episode.

The official logline for the episode reads, "With the ugly truth behind Frankie's assassination revealed, a torn Olivia (Kerry Washington) wonders how different her life - and the country - would be if she, Mellie (Bellamy Young) and Cyrus (Jeff Perry) had never rigged Fitz's (Tony Goldwyn) election."

Some first-look pictures of the 100th episode have been released via The Hollywood Reporter, featuring Fitz and Mellie separately. They don't look different in appearances, but we can see Fitz sipping what appears to be alcoholic drink.

At the show's PaleyFest panel on Sunday, March 26, the cast talked about the "What-If"-themed episode. "The 100th episode is insane. It's a 'what if?' episode," Goldwyn said. "It informs in an interesting way. You're seeing an alternate reality if things had not gone the way they went...It's not a standalone. It actually informs your understanding of all of us when we get back to our normal 'Scandal' reality."

Joshua Malina added, "We have some fantasy fulfillment, there’s some dread fulfillment." Katie Lowes chimed in, "It's really the OG Gladiator inside track. It's such a gift the 'Scandal' writers gave to us."

Darby Stanchfield said that the landmark episode worked as a pressure relief valve with Huck's storyline getting heavy after he's shot multiple times in the latest episode. "Where it's placed in our season, with the Huck storyline getting really heavy, it's oxygen to this fire and you laugh because you need to," she said.

As for the future of the series, the cast seemed optimistic that it could last long beyond the current season. "I think it goes as long as you want it to go," said Joe Morton. The Shondaland drama has been renewed for a seventh season by ABC.

"Scandal" airs Thursdays at 9 P.M. ET.
