BBC America has reportedly ordered U.S. spin-off of 'Top Gear' titled 'Top Gear America', which is scheduled to premiere this year.

AceShowbiz - A new take on popular British show "Top Gear" is heading to the U.S. again. BBC America announces that it has ordered a new American spin-off of the non-fiction show, titled "Top Gear America".

Actor and racer William Fichtner is set to host the new iteration alongside drag racing champ Antron Brown and British auto journalist Tom "Wookie" Ford. The eight hour-long episode first season is slated to premiere on the network later this year. BBC Worldwide will produce and distribute the show.

"We are big fans of the mix of cars, credibility, and charisma that adds up to the winning formula for 'Top Gear', and couldn't be happier that BBCA is now the home for the franchise in the US, with 'Top Gear America' joining the original show on our network," said Sarah Barnett, president of BBCA. She continued, "Bill, Antron and Wookie are serious gearheads who never take themselves too seriously. It will be quite the trip."

Fichtner, Brown and Ford will race various vehicles on the scenic highways and historic tracks of the American west. The new spin-off will feature a celebrity guest racing around to compete with other celebrities' times in each episode. They will compete for top honor on the leader board at the new "Top Gear" studio and track, Speed Vegas. "Top Gear America" will also include the one and only Stig, a mysterious masked driver.

The British "Top Gear" is a well-loved show which was rebranded for the current show in 2002, after debuting in 1977. Several countries, such as Australia, Russia, South Korea, China and France, have made iterations of the show.

Previously, America attempted to bring a spin-off of the famous British car show with "Top Gear USA". The show was made by A&E Networks and aired on the History Channel for five seasons before it was canceled last summer. Comedian Adam Ferrara, rallycross driver Tanner Foust and NASCAR on NBC host Rutledge Wood hosted "Top Gear USA".
