In a statement he posted on Facebook, the 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' actor revealed that he decided to go to rehab because he had renewed problems with alcohol abuse.

AceShowbiz - Ben Affleck has made a shocking announcement that he had completed treatment for alcohol addiction. In a lengthy note he posted on Facebook on Tuesday, March 14, the 44-year-old actor revealed how lucky he is to get the love from his family, including estranged wife Jennifer Garner, during his difficult time.

"I'm lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I've done the work I set out to do," so he wrote. "This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery."

Ben checked into a rehab facility after the 2017 Academy Awards late last month, a source told TMZ. He explained in his statement on Facebook that he decided to go to rehab because he had renewed problems with alcohol abuse. It's not Ben's first time in rehab as he was previously treated for alcohol addiction at the facility Promises in Malibu back in 2001.

"This is a positive step for him, he wanted to do this," a source close to Ben told HollywoodLife.com. "There wasn't one thing that pushed him over the edge but this is something he has been working on. This is going to be an ongoing thing for him, he is very invested in his health and he is trying to get healthy."

The "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" actor also made it clear in his statement that he intended on being a role model for those who were struggling with addiction. "I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step," so Ben wrote.
