Amid 'The Dark Phoenix Saga' rumors, producer Shuler Donner says the franchise will no longer explore the Erik/Charles dynamic.

AceShowbiz - "X-Men" is moving on from the dynamic between frenemies Professor X and Magneto. "We cannot, once again, explore the Erik/Charles dynamic," producer Lauren Shuler Donner reveals to Vanity Fair, adding that the change is "both liberating and makes me nervous."

While Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr will always be "essential" to the universe, the producer points out that "there are other stories to tell." Rumor has it, the next installment tentatively titled "X-Men: Supernova" will follows the story of Jean Grey who is possessed by a cosmic entity force called the Dark Phoenix Force.

Jean Grey's huge powers as the Phoenix were already glimpsed in the last film "X-Men: Apocalypse". The red-haired mutant unleashed the full extent of her powers to defeat En Sabah Nur. She was played by Famke Janssen in the earlier installments before Sophie Turner took over.

The franchise is expected to have big changes following Jennifer Lawrence's departure. Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart also decided to bow out after "Logan". A spin-off called "X-Men: The New Mutants" has already cast new faces like Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane and Nat Wolff as Cannonball.
