AceShowbiz - Emma Watson has faced backlash following her nearly topless photoshoot for Vanity Fair. Critics have suggested that the "Beauty and the Beast (2017)" star posing with her breasts partially exposed in just a white cape for the magazine is hypocritical of her feminist views.
In an interview with Reuters, Watson has finally addressed the controversy. In the interview, the 26-year-old beauty also tells co-star Dan Stevens that critics "were saying that I couldn't be a feminist and have boobs." According to her, feminism is all about choice, stating that she's "quietly stunned" by the backlash.
"It just always reveals to me how many misconceptions and what a misunderstanding there is about what feminism is," she says. "Feminism is about giving women choice. Feminism is not a stick with which to beat other women with. It's about freedom, it's about liberation, it's about equality. I really don't know what my tits have to do with it. It's very confusing."
"I'm confused. Most people are confused. No, I'm just always just quietly stunned," she adds, before noting that she's involved in the artistic direction of the photoshoot, "We'd been doing so many crazy things on that shoot but it felt incredibly artistic and I've been so creatively involved and engaged with Tim [Walker] and I'm so thrilled about how interesting and beautiful the photographs were."
The controversy began when some critics suggested that Watson undermined her desire to be taken seriously as an actress and feminist by baring her skin.
