'The Great Wall' only gained $18.5 million in its domestic debut, but it did well overseas, earning $244 million from international territories.

AceShowbiz - "The Lego Batman Movie" still dominated North American box office over the holiday weekend. "The Lego Movie" spin-off earned $33 million domestically and is expected to gain more on President's Day on Monday.

"Lego Batman", which still attracted moviegoers in family demography on its second weekend, once again defeated erotic romance "Fifty Shades Darker" starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. The "Fifty Shades of Grey" sequel based on E.L. James' best-selling book earned $20.4 million domestically. Although the romance flick hasn't reached number one yet, it was steady on the second place of the chart for two weeks in a row.

Matt Damon-starring "The Great Wall" entered the weekend box office chart on the third place. Despite its $150 million production budget, the historical monster movie premiered only to $18.5 million over its first three-days in North America. The movie distributed by Universal Pictures did quite well overseas, though, particularly in China. So far, it earned $244 million from international territories.

"This is absolutely a strategy that's worldwide," said Nick Carpou, distribution chief for Universal. "Worldwide, we are one of many markets."

"John Wick: Chapter 2" starring Keanu Reeves as the titular hitman dropped to the fourth place over the holiday weekend, but still got a quite satisfying cume. The "John Wick" sequel gained $16.2 million and therefore earned a total of $58.7 million domestically. New Line comedy "Fist Fight" starring Charlie Day, Ice Cube and Tracy Morgan rounded out the top five. The comedy earned $12.2 million domestically.

Meanwhile, "A Cure for Wellness" didn't have a very good start. The gothic medical horror thriller was poorly reviewed by critics and only earned $4.4 million in its domestic debut. The movie directed by Gore Verbinski sat on the tenth place of the box office chart.
