In the remake, the multi-talented Golden Globe winner will star opposite James Earl Jones, who will reprise his role as Simba's father Mufasa.

AceShowbiz - Donald Glover is set to be a king. Director Jon Favreau has just taken to his official Twitter account to announce that Glover will play Simba in the upcoming "The Lion King (2018)" remake. Favreau announced the news by posting Glover's picture and tweeting, "I just can't wait to be a king," which is a reference to classic "The Lion King" soundtrack.

Later on, Favreau also announced that James Earl Jones would reprise his role as Mufasa, Simba's beloved father. Earl Jones, a "Star Wars" veteran who recently reprised his voice work as Darth Vader in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story", voiced Mufasa in the 1994 version of "The Lion King".

"The Lion King" remake project was announced last September, after Favreau's version of "The Jungle Book" became worldwide blockbuster. "The Lion King" will likely have the same style with "The Jungle Book", which used CGI technology and computer-generated imagery to bring the animal characters to life.

Glover is a multi-talented actor who brought home many Golden Globe accolades for FX's comedy series "Atlanta", which he writes, executive produces and stars on. He is also a comedian and rapper. Last December, Favreau met Glover at The Hollywood Reporter's conversation on creativity and admitted that his son is a fan of him. "By the way, full disclosure: I see your face every day when I wake up my 15-year-old son because on his door is a portrait of you," said the director.

Besides starring in the upcoming "The Lion King", Glover will star in "Spider-Man: Homecoming". In addition, Glover will portray Lando Calrissian in untitled stand-alone Star Wars film II, which is centering on Alden Ehrenreich's Han Solo.
