The newly-engaged actress talks about her bisexual identity and suicidal thoughts while accepting the Human Rights Campaign Visibility Award at an LGBT gala in North Carolina.

AceShowbiz - Evan Rachel Wood opened up about her bisexual identity and her suicidal thoughts at the 2017 Human Rights Campaign North Carolina Gala over the weekend. While accepting the Human Rights Campaign Visibility Award at the LGBT gala, the "Westworld" actress said she "buried" her true feelings in her teen years in the wake of frequent anti-gay hate speech.

"I thought women were beautiful," the 29-year-old actress said, stating that her attraction to the same sex began when she was 12. "But because I was born that way, I never once stopped to think that was strange or anything to fear."

After admitting that she "buried" her feelings as a result of the anti-gay hate speech that surrounded her, she said she's confused by her attraction to men. "I also thought that men were beautiful," she said.

She then recalled her suicidal thoughts, saying, "There was a time, despite what it may have looked like on the surface, that the fear had gripped me so tight, and I felt broken and unlovable." The Golden Globe-nominated actress added, "And I did not think I would see tomorrow."

"But because of the voices I listened to, because of the people I identified with, the films I had watched, the music I had heard, because of words like 'bisexual' and the doors that it opened, I'm still here," she said in her heartfelt speech. "And I didn't miss out on the most beautiful thing I've seen yet, and that was my son."

Wood revealed she's bisexual via Twitter in 2012. Shortly after that, she got married to actor Jamie Bell, with whom she shares a son. They split in 2014 after nearly two years of marriage. Last month, Wood got engaged to Zach Villa, her partner in the musical duo Rebel and a Basketcase.
