'Game of Thrones' and 'Veep' Directors Among 2017 DGA Winners in TV

The directors behind 'Saturday Night Live', 'The Night Of' and 'O.J.: Made in America' also join the list of 2017 Directors Guild of America winners.

AceShowbiz - The 69th annual Directors Guild of America Awards revealed winners in television over the weekend ahead of the much-anticipated Academy Awards. Miguel Sapochnik won Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Dramatic Series, thanks to his work in "Game of Thrones" for "The Battle of the Bastards".

Becky Martin, meanwhile, took home Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Comedy Series for "Veep" episode called "Inauguration". Other directors who got feted this year included the directors behind "The Night Of", "Saturday Night Live" and "O.J.: Made in America".

Besides handing out awards to TV directors, the DGA members recognized the best directors in movie. Damien Chazelle won Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Feature Film for "La La Land" and Garth Davis grabbed Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a First-Time Feature Film for his big-screen debut "Lion".

  • Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Reality Programs: J. Rupert Thompson - "American Grit" (The Finale - Over the Falls)
  • Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Children's Programs: Tina Mabry - "An American Girl Story - Melody 1963: Love Has to Win"
  • Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Commercials: Derek Cianfrance
  • Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentary: Ezra Edelman - "O.J.: Made in America"
