Watch Ansel Elgort Get Steamy in 'American Psycho'-Inspired Video for 'Thief'

The 'Carrie' actor channels his inner Patrick Bateman from 'American Psycho' for his latest clip, which also features his girlfriend Violetta Komyshan.

AceShowbiz - Ansel Elgort has released a music video for his latest track, "Thief", in full. Directed by Ansel's older brother, film editor Warren Elgort, the clip oozes "American Psycho" vibes. But the music video appears to channel more "Fifty Shades of Grey" as it's loaded with steamy scenes featuring the 22-year-old actor and his girlfriend, Violetta Komyshan.

The clip begins with Ansel singing in a room filled with beaming red neon light. This music video basically has no plot since it randomly moves the settings from a bedroom to a bathroom, before going back to the beaming-red room. Throughout the video, Ansel can be seen punching the air, observing his muscles and also dancing with his hands.

Ansel appears to try so hard shedding his "teenage star" image which he had after portraying Augustus Waters in "The Fault in Our Stars" by looming seductively over his love interest, Violetta, on a bed and in a bathtub. He tries hard to look vain and mysterious by flexing his muscles after having sex in front of the mirror and never showing emotions.

Ansel channeled Christian Bale's "American Psycho" character, Patrick Bateman, in the song. He tried to implement Bale's character into the song and made it like an "extension of artists inhabiting alter-ego" for himself. During an interview with Rolling Stone, Ansel opened up about his idea of making an alter ego.

"I had created a character while writing and producing this song that was the Thief," Elgort told Rolling Stone. "I couldn't wait to bring him to life in the video. For the performance, we wanted something colorful and rich. We went with an all-leather outfit and neon lighting while I sang and danced, like an eighties dance video."

"Musicians used to play characters all the time: Bowie [David Bowie], MJ [Michael Jackson], Freddie Mercury. I'm inspired by those guys [rather than] the modern pop star," Ansel added.

Ansel, who has debuted as a DJ under the stage name Ansolo, also explained the musical element he added to his latest song. "The first element of the production I created was that changing rolling triplet bass line," he said. "That bass line was certainly inspired by some of the bass lines in [the 'Drive'] soundtrack."
