'Street Dreams', from 'Rush' creator Jonathan Levine, will follow a young man from Queens as he evolves from 'crack dealer to rapper to adult.'

AceShowbiz - BET is taking on the story of a famous music star again following the success of its New Edition miniseries. Nas is the subject of an upcoming scripted project written by "Rush" creator Jonathan Levine that has got a pilot order from the network.
Named after Nas' breakout 1996 hit song, "Sweet Dream" is described "as a show about music, family and the trials and tribulations of the rap game." It "tracks the ascent of Nas, a young man from the Queensbridge projects who will go on to become a famous rapper, as he evolves from young man to crack dealer to rapper to adult."
Levine will write and direct the pilot of the hour-long series, while Nas will executive produce the series. Deadline reports that deals are still being finalized, but Levine is also expected to executive produce the series along with indie film producer Jamie Patricof and Lynette Howell ("The Place Beyond the Pines") of Electric City Entertainment and Nas' manager Anthony Saleh.
Nas told Rolling Stone that he recruited Levine for the project after watching "The Wackness" which was directed by Levine. "I really felt what he was doing back then," the 43-year-old MC said of the filmmaker. "The way that he filmed New York City and told his story was so dead on, I just felt that he was the guy to do it. I think he's a brilliant director."
