AceShowbiz - "Star Trek: Discovery" has finally begun its production. The highly ambitious project, which has been in development since late 2015, releases a behind-the-scenes video to mark the start of production and to tide fans over the show's premiere.

The one-minute promo takes us back to where it begins, showing pictures from the original TV series created by Gene Roddenberry. It then offers a glimpse of the set of the new show, as well as the new costumes and the captain's chair.

"Star Trek: Discovery" follows the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery as they discover new worlds and civilizations, while exploring the franchise's signature contemporary themes. Sonequa Martin-Green takes the lead role of a lieutenant commander on the Discovery.

Michelle Yeoh stars as Captain Georgiou (the Starfleet Captain aboard the Starship Shenzhou), Doug Jones plays Lt. Saru (a Starfleet Science Officer and a new alien species in the Star Trek universe), and James Frain is tapped to play Spock's father Sarek universe). Chris Obi, Shazad Latif and Mary Chieffo are cast as Klingons named T'Kuvma (a leader seeking to unite the Klingon houses), Kol (a Klingon Commanding Officer and protege of T'Kuvma), and L'Rell (the Battle Deck Commander of a Klingon ship) respectively.

No new premiere date is set for the 13-episode series after it was pushed back from its initial May release date. The show is set to premiere on CBS, before moving to CBS All Access.
