Meanwhile, director Antoine Fuqua exits the project because he wants to focus on another film.

AceShowbiz - "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" star Diego Luna may join "Scarface reboot. The movie is the reimagining of the 1932 and 1983 films of the same name.

Meanwhile, Antoine Fuqua is no longer directing the project. Despite Fuqua's interest in the "Scarface" reboot, Variety reports that Fuqua needs so much time to develop "The Equalizer" sequel and simply can't leave the project.

"Scarface" is based on Armitage Trail's novel of the same name, which was published in 1929. A movie based on it came out in 1932 and centered on an Irish immigrant who became gangster in 1920s Chicago. A remake starring Al Pacino came out in 1983, and unlike the 1932 movie, it focused on a Cuban refugee as a gangster in 1980s Miami. The upcoming "Scarface", which is set to be released in 2018, will reportedly center on the rise and fall of a Mexican gangster in Los Angeles.

"Boardwalk Empire" creator Terence Winter writes the most recent version of "Scarface" screenplay, which was previously penned by David Ayer ("Suicide Squad") and Jonathan Herman ("Ghost in the Shell"). Following Fuqua's exit, Universal is now planning to look for a new director.

Meanwhile, Diego Luna, who is well known for his role as Cassian Andor in "Rogue One", has finished filming horror movie "Flatliners". Nina Dobrev is also starring in the flick which is set to be released in the U.S. on September 29.
