'Saturday Night Live' puts Katie Rich on an indefinite suspension for mocking Barron Trump on Twitter and labeling him as 'country's first homeschool shooter.'

AceShowbiz - Katie Rich, a writer for "Saturday Night Live", is reportedly suspended after her post about Donald Trump's son, Barron Trump, on Twitter went viral. Rich was widely criticized for targeting the 10-year-old boy in an ill-conceived joke as she tweeted, "Barron will be this country's first homeschool shooter."

NBC has not commented on the controversy, but according to an insider, Rich is currently under indefinite suspension. She was suspended from the show immediately after her tweet drew criticism. Her name was also not listed in the credits for the episode that aired on Saturday, January 21.

Meanwhile, the writer deleted her controversial tweet and deactivated her account just a moment after she started receiving backlash. She reactivated it on Monday to relay her public apology. Rich, who has been working for NBC's "Saturday Night Live" since 2013 for "Weekend Update" segment, tweeted, "I sincerely apologize for the insensitive tweet. I deeply regret my actions & offensive words. It was inexcusable & I'm so sorry."

Barron Trump has been targeted by cyberbullies after showing uninterested expressions at his father's inauguration. He was even spotted refusing his mom's attempt to hold his hands.

Chelsea Clinton, the former First Daughter, spoke up for the current president's youngest son by posting a message on Facebook. Clinton wrote, "Barron Trump deserves the chance every child does-to be a kid. Standing up for every kid also means opposing POTUS policies that hurt kids." But her post also drew criticism since she defended Barron Trump while denouncing U.S. policies.
