AceShowbiz - Ariel Winter goes topless for SELF magazine. The "Modern Family" star bares her side boob and her breast reduction scars in four black-and-white photos. She covers her nipples with a blanket and wears jeans.

In an interview with the magazine, Ariel opens up about how she came to accept her curves. "Growing up in the spotlight was quite possibly the worst for my self-esteem," she shares, "I had a hard time finding confidence within myself."

She explains, "When I started ['Modern Family'], I had a completely different body than what happened overnight at 12 years old. I was stick thin, I had no chest, I had no butt-I had nothing. I was totally flat, and I was so sad about it. Then automatically, overnight, my body changed drastically. I was a D cup and had a bigger butt, and my waist was expanding. Everything was getting bigger. I automatically got this hate and judgment online."

"If I went to the Emmys, or if I even went to the grocery store, there would be an article the next day being like 'Ariel Winter [had] her boobs out at this event!' Just really negative things that weren't helpful for me," she continues.

It was Ariel's "Modern Family" co-star Sofia Vergara who helped her come to accept her body transformation.

"I had a great role model in Sofia growing up, with her being a curvy woman that was super proud of who she was and what she looked like," she says, "She could see that I was struggling a little bit with how to deal with my body, and was always trying to give me advice, like, 'Here are some brands that would look good on our body type,' or 'Wear whatever you want, and feel good about yourself.' "

Ariel also credits her older sister, Shanelle Workman, for helping her deal with negative comments. "I look up to her so much," says the 18-year-old actress, "I would listen to her talk to me, saying, 'It doesn't matter what other people think. You are who you are. It's not going to change. Love yourself for who you are. People are going to hate regardless of what you do. You could conform to everything they say, and they're still going to find something to pick. Or you could be yourself and be happy and not listen to what they say.' "

She adds, "It was hard for me in the beginning to deal with people's comments and deal with everybody having an opinion on absolutely everything I did. It was hard for me to not fall prey to wanting to change the way I felt and the way I did things and the way I looked because of what other people said. But as I got older, I started to realize that as long as I'm positive in my life and as long as I feel good about my decisions and stick to how I feel and the things I want to do, that's what's most important. And that's what's going to get me through in life."

According to Ariel, her breast reduction was "honestly the greatest choice I made" and the recovery process was "actually great." She recalls, "I stayed in a recovery center for one or two nights [after the surgery] just because I wanted to. I didn't even really need to. It was that quick and painless. Literally I sat in the center and I was nervous about it. You know, 'I want to go to this recovery center, because I'm nervous.' The first night, I could have gone home. I woke up, I felt great. I was sitting there ordering a bunch of new clothes for myself, because I was so excited about it."

"I recommend it for everybody-all women that have thought about it and have suffered from having really large breasts and have back problems and just don't feel right in their own skin," she adds.
