On January 14, former King George depicter Rory O'Malley held a coronation ceremony in Richard Rodgers Theater to pass his role to Killam. It was a tradition originally started by Brian d'Arcy James, who played King George off-Broadway. Killam, who is scheduled to play the King of England on January 17, reacted to the ceremony hilariously. He foreshadowed comedic tone he would bring to the stage by ripping off his pants and revealing leopard underwear.

"Hamilton" is one of many portrayals of Americans' struggle to gain independence from British Empire. It centers on the life of Alexander Hamilton, one of American founding fathers, and is mainly set in eighteenth century American Revolutionary War. The musical has scored many accolades, including Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score, as well as a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Other stars who have been added to the "Hamilton" cast include Anthony Lee Medina as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton, Alysha Deslorieux as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds, J. Quinton Johnson as Hercules Mulligan and Bryan Terrell Clark as George Washington.
