Coen Brothers Will Pen and Direct Their First TV Project 'Ballad of Buster Scruggs'

Two of the greatest American filmmakers of all time are going to write and direct their first TV project, which is expected to be a western anthology series.

AceShowbiz - Joen Coen and Ethan Coen are venturing into the small screen. The brothers will direct their first TV series called "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs". Set in the old west, the project is expected to be a western anthology which is based on an original idea.

The auteurs are teaming up with Annapurna Television for the project. Joel and Ethan will pen the script, direct and produce the series through their Mike Zoss Productions. Meanwhile, Megan Allison from Annapurna Pictures and Annapurna Television's president Sue Naegle will serve as executive producers.

"We are very excited to be working with Megan and Sue on this project," said the Coens in a statement. The project will mark their return to western genre after their 2011 film "True Grit" starring Hailee Steinfeld and Matt Damon.

The Coens' most recent project was "Hail Caesar" starring George Clooney and Scarlett Johansson. The brothers then joined forces with Clooney for an upcoming criminal comedy film "Suburbicon" starring Julianne Moore and Josh Brolin.

Ethan and Joel's movie credits also include 2012's movie "Gambit" directed by Michael Hoffman and 2013's film "Inside Llewyn Davis". They worked with Angelina Jolie for "Unbroken" and penned the script of "Bridge of Spies" which was directed by Steven Spielberg.
