AceShowbiz - Donald Trump has responded to Meryl Streep for ripping him in her powerful speech at the 2017 Golden Globe Awards. The 70-year-old president-elect branded the Cecyl B. Demille honoree "a Hillary lover" after she called him out while delivering her acceptance speech at the Sunday night, January 8 ceremony.

Streep referenced last year's incident in which Trump appeared to mock disabled reporter Serge F Kovaleski. "It broke my heart when I saw it and I still can't get it out of my head," she said. "It wasn't in a movie, it was real life," she continued without naming Trump. "Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence. When powerful people use their position to bully others we all lose."

Trump said in a telephone interview with The New York Times early Monday morning that he had not seen the award ceremony or Streep's remarks. He revealed he was "not surprised" that he became the subject of scathing remarks from "liberal movie people." "I was never mocking anyone," he claimed. "I was calling into question a reporter who had gotten nervous because he had changed his story."

"People keep saying I intended to mock the reporter's disability, as if Meryl Streep and others could read my mind, and I did no such thing," the soon-to-be president of the U.S. defended himself, before noting Streep's remarks at last summer's Democratic National Convention. "And remember, Meryl Streep introduced Hillary Clinton at her convention," he said. "A lot of these people supported Hillary."

Trump believed other stars would attend his upcoming inauguration ceremony despite the criticism he received from the Golden Globes stage. "We are going to have an unbelievable, perhaps record-setting turnout for the inauguration, and there will be plenty of movie and entertainment stars," he said. "All the dress shops are sold out in Washington. It's hard to find a great dress for this inauguration."
