The 49-year-old actor has revealed that playing Xander Cage could make him 'smile and laugh again' and help him overcome the pain of losing his 'Fast and Furious' co-star.

AceShowbiz - Vin Diesel says filming "XXX: Return of Xander Cage" helped him cope with the loss of Paul Walker. In the cover story for the latest issue of #legend magazine, Vin dishes on how playing Xander Cage could make him "smile and laugh again" and help him overcome the pain of losing his "brother."

"I was close to not being able to find a window to do ['XXX: Return of Xander Cage']," the 49-year-old actor reveals. "But there was a greater need for me to do it because I had come off the very intense experience of shooting ['Furious 7'] and all that entailed, including the loss of a brother [Paul]," he continues.

"Because that was so intense, I had to choose ['XXX: Return of Xander Cage']," Vin shares, before explaining, "I had to shoot that, literally, so I could smile and laugh again because the character I'd been playing was so brooding and had forced me to go to such a dark place, doing it without someone that I loved."

The third "XXX" is hitting U.S. theaters on January 20. On April 14, Vin is back as Dominic Toretto in "The Fate of the Furious". Other returning cast members include Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez and Jason Statham. Among new faces joining the cast is Helen Mirren.

Of Helen's casting in the eight "Fast and Furious" movie, Vin says, "Helen Mirren, the wonderful and amazing Helen Mirren, accosted me at a Golden Globes party and basically threatened to beat me up if she wasn't going to be in one."
