David Thewlis, who played Remus Lupin in the 'Harry Potter' movie series, joins the cast which has already included Ewan McGregor, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Carrie Coon.

AceShowbiz - "Fargo" has added "Harry Potter" star David Thewlis to its cast for season 3. The English actor, best known for his role as Remus Lupin in the wizard movie series, has landed a series regular role in the next installment of the FX anthology series.

Thewlis will play V.M. Vargas, "a mysterious loner and true capitalist who delivers Emmit (Ewan McGregor), the Parking Lot King of Minnesota, the bad news that he has just become partners with his employers, whose business interests lay outside the law," so EW reports.

McGregor takes on two leading roles, playing brothers named Emmit and Ray Stussy who not only look quite different but also lead two different lives. Emmit is a handsome, self-made, real estate mogul and family man who sees himself as an American success story. His slightly younger brother, on the other hand, is more of a cautionary tale. Balding and pot-bellied, Ray is the kind of guy who peaked in high school. Now a parole officer, he has a huge chip on his shoulder about the hand he's been dealt, and he blames Emmit for his misfortunes.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead will play Nikki Swango, a crafty and alluring recent parolee with a passion for competitive bridge playing. Nikki is a woman with a plan, focused on always being at least one move ahead of her opponents.

As for Carrie Coon, she's tapped to play Gloria Burgle, the chief of the Eden Valley police, and a newly divorced mother, who is struggling to understand this new world around her where people connect more intimately with their phones than the people right in front of them.

The third season is set in 2010, a few years after the events in the first season and a few decades after season 2. Filming will begin later this year for a 2017 premiere.
