Showtime has announced the renewal for its comedy drama, while the Ryan Phillippe-starring series gets a second season order on USA Network.

AceShowbiz - Showtime has announced that "Shameless" will return for an eighth season in 2017. The renewal comes just after the season 7 finale, announced through a post-credit scene telling viewers to "come back next year."

The news also arrives five days after Emmy Rossum resolved her contract dispute. The actress was trying to get equal pay as her co-star William H. Macy. On Wednesday, she tweeted her excitement to continue playing Fiona Gallagher and telling her fans that the team is going back to work in May.

"Shameless" season 7 finale concluded with the Gallagher family dealing with shades of grief and Frank planning his next move. The seventh season ranked as its highest-rated season to date.

Production on the new 12 episodes of "Shameless" will begin in May and season 8 is set to air in fall 2017.

Elsewhere, "Shooter", a TV adaptation of the feature film of the same name, has been renewed for a second season at USA Network. "John Hlavin and the team behind 'Shooter' have delivered a compelling action thriller that consistently engages a strong and loyal audience," said NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment president Chris McCumber. "We look forward to partnering once again with Paramount Television and Universal Cable Productions as we follow Bob Lee into his next chapter," he said.

The series, starring Ryan Phillippe, is executive produced by Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and John Hlavin, who also serves as showrunner. The project is also produced by Philippe.

"Shooter" season 1 finale will air on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 10 P.M. ET on USA Network.
