Based on the clip of the performance, it seemed that audience didn't realize it was K-Dot rapping in the flesh until he actually appeared from the back of the stage.

AceShowbiz - The Weeknd surprised fans as he brought out Kendrick Lamar at his Vevo Presents concert in Los Angeles on Saturday, December 17. Taking place at LA Hangar Studio, they performed "Sidewalks" together live for the first time.

As The Weeknd sang his verse of the song, K-Dot emerged from the left side of the stage, rapping his verse on the duet. Based on the clip from the performance, it seemed that audience didn't realize it was Kendrick rapping in the flesh until he sprang out on stage. The crowd immediately put their phones in the air, recording every precious moment as they tried to get as close to the stage as possible.

The "In the Night" hitmaker previously spoke about working with K-Dot on "Sidewalks" during an interview with Zane Lowe back in November. "[Kendrick]'s a genius. He is really genius," he said. He added, "He'd walk around. He'd play the record over and over again. I played him songs, the 'Starboy' theme of course, which he incorporated into his verse. He would just walk around. We had food. He's writing his verse in his head."

Earlier this week, The Weeknd offered insights into his upcoming "Starboy: Legend of the Fall World Tour" during an interview with Billboard. He revealed that he wanted his concerts to "feel like opera." He also asked set designer Es Devlin, who worked on live shows for Adele, Beyonce Knowles, Kanye West and U2, to help him plan the stage design.
