The 49-year-old actor/comedian is set to play a member of a professional eSports team in Legendary's popular tournament-based movie.

AceShowbiz - Will Ferrell is up for another comedy movie. Legendary Pictures has announced that the "Daddy's Home" actor has been tapped to star as a member of a professional eSports team in upcoming movie. He is an anomaly in a sport where players usually retire in their 20s due to slowing hand-eye coordination.

In addition to starring, Ferrell will produce the untitled eSports project through his Gary Sanchez production banner in partnership with Mosaic. The movie will be based on the popular competitive tournament, with Michael Kvamme and Jordan Dunn scripting. Real-life eSports teams, Evil Geniuses and Fnatic, are in talks to appear in the movie.

The competitive gaming scene is quickly becoming one of the most popular spectator sports worldwide, filling arenas across the U.S., Europe and Asia. The biggest eSports tournaments feature teams of five playing head-to-head matches on a stage, with fans watching the game on the jumbotron.

Ferrell is currently filming Sony's comedy "Holmes & Watson" with John C. Reilly. The 49-year-old comedian can next be seen in "Zeroville" opposite the likes of Dave Franco, Megan Fox, Seth Rogen and James Franco, who also serves as a director.
