The 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' helmer revealed that it would be a lie if he 'said there weren't pangs of regret' after giving up on the helming duty of the upcoming 'Star Wars' movie.

AceShowbiz - J.J. Abrams regrets not directing future "Star Wars" movies. In a recent interview with Variety, the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" director revealed how he really felt about giving up on the helming duty of "Star Wars Episode VIII", which is currently being directed by Ryan Johnson.

"I'd be lying if I said there weren't pangs of regret," said the 50-year-old filmmaker, who is now serving as an executive producer for "Episode VIII". "Particularly when I realize I won't get to say 'Action!' to Daisy Ridley, or get to work with Mark Hamill in a scene where he gets to speak."

Aside from the upcoming "Star Wars" movie, Abrams' other projects include Tom Cruise's "Mission: Impossible 6", which is set for a July 27, 2018 release, "Star Trek 4" starring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, and "God Particle", which is said to be the third "Cloverfield" movie.

"Star Wars Episode VIII" is set for a December 15, 2017 release in U.S. theaters. In addition to Ridley and Hamill, the returning cast includes John Boyega, Oscar Isaac Carrie Fisher, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong'o, Andy Serkis and Adam Driver. They are joined by Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.
