John Legend on Kanye West's Breakdown: 'I Was Concerned by What I Saw'
Celebrity

Kanye's mental breakdown is reportedly caused by combination of issues including marital problems with Kim Kardashian.

AceShowbiz - John Legend revealed on "CBS This Morning" that he and wife Chrissy Teigen were with Kim Kardashian before Kanye West's hospitalization. "We were with Kim actually, you know, right before all of that," he said, "I was concerned by what I saw, so hopefully he's getting some rest and some time to figure things out."

Kanye was allegedly taken to UCLA Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation. He had to be handcuffed to the stretcher because he refused to go. He reportedly suffered a nervous breakdown after launching into a rant about politics, press, radio, Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles. He has since cancelled all remaining dates of his Saint Pablo tour, citing "exhaustion."

According to reports, Kanye was struggling with a combination of issues including sleep deprivation, marital problems, paranoia over his rift with Jay-Z and his jealousy of Beyonce. "I think he's exhausted. Just really tired," mother-in-law Kris Jenner said at the recent Angel Ball. "It's a grueling tour." When asked about her daughter Kim, Kris said, "She's [taking things] one step at a time."

A source told PEOPLE, "He feels like he's under spiritual attack, and has been for awhile. It's not just the big things; it's smaller, quieter things, internal things. You might think that it's about Kim's robbery, and while that didn't help, that's not what's going on here. He's dealing with a lot more subtle issues."

"His mother died in November, so this time of year always brings him a lot of pain. He keeps that pain internalized, but sometimes will talk about how hard this time of year is for him. He works through the pain every November," the source added.

"He feels like it's a trying time for his spirit, but that can be a good thing. He isn't one to run away from these things. He leans in and listens, and comes away a stronger, better man. But it hurts him; his spirit is vexed. But that's where growth comes from."

"Sometimes, darkness creeps in, and Kanye wrestles against it. He talks about that a lot. It's exhausting, and it takes everything he's got. He's just so tired now; he's very low energy and feels like there's a grieving in his spirit. It's very hard to explain, but something has happened recently, where he's not the 'Ye that everyone knows."

Many celebrities voiced their concerns following Kanye's rant and hospitalization. "I smoke weed," Snoop Dogg said in an Instagram video. "Weed don't make you do that. What the f*** is he on?" Rose McGowan tweeted, "I hope Kanye West feels better, I also hope he'll realize that no white supremacist is worth adulating."

Marlon Wayans wrote, "I know @kanyewest has said some off putting sh*t lately but I pray for him his well being and his health. Get well bro. Always love." Emile Hirsch also sent his prayer, "Hey @kanyewest, get better man! People are making jokes right now, but having been there myself, I hope he gets the help he needs." Janelle Monae tweeted her support as well, "Praying for Kanye. Praying he has the right energy surrounding him during this time. Sending peace and love."
