The 20-year-old actress herself reveals that her character won't be romantically involved with Tom Holland's Peter Parker in the upcoming superhero flick.

AceShowbiz - While details about Zendaya Coleman's role in "Spider-Man: Homecoming" are still kept under tight wraps, many have speculated that she will play the love interest of Tom Holland's Peter Parker. But now, the 20-year-old actress herself has made it clear that her character won't be romantically involved with the webcrawler.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about the movie, Zendaya revealed, "My character is not romantic." While she was rumored to be playing Parker's long-time crush Mary Jane Watson, she remained tight-lipped about her character's identity. She described her character, whose name is Michelle, as a "very dry, awkward and intellectual" girl.

Zendaya also said she enjoyed watching fans and outlets try to guess who she might be playing, and addressed critics who claimed that MJ could only be portrayed by a white actress. She said, "Of course there's going to be outrage over that because for some reason some people just aren't ready."

She continued, "I'm like, 'I don't know what America you live in, but from what I see when I walk outside my streets of New York right now, I see lots of diversity and I see the real world and it's beautiful, and that's what should be reflected and that's what is reflected, so you're just going to have to get over it.' "

In related news, the site also spoke with Tom Holland. When asked about his deal for playing Spidey, the actor replied, "They give you options, and those could be exercised whenever. Like a cameo in 'Avengers'. I'm unclear as to which movies, though."

"I do know I have three 'Spider-Man' movies and three solo movies contracted," he revealed. "But if you have another movie, Marvel is so good at working around it. They're very respectful of your life, really. They understand that you have to work on other movies, and they try and fix it up so you can work around each other."

"Spider-Man: Homecoming" is set for a July 7, 2017 U.S. release. Directed by Jon Watts from a script provided by John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein, it centers on young Peter Parker who, after making his sensational debut in "Captain America: Civil War", begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging superhero.

The superhero flick also stars Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr., who will reprise their roles as May Parker and Tony Stark respectively. Other cast members include Michael Keaton, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly and Bokeem Woodbine.
