'Rogue One': Gareth Edwards Teases Ben Mendelsohn's 'Working Class' Character

Ahead of the film's release, director Greth Edwards has shed some light on how Mendelsohn's Orson Krennic is different from 'upper class' Grand Moff Tarkin as well as Darth Vader.

AceShowbiz - As "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will hit theaters soon, new details about Ben Mendelsohn's Orson Krennic have emerged. Director Gareth Edwards has shed some light on how the villainous Imperial officer is different from "upper class" Grand Moff Tarkin as well as Darth Vader from the original "Star Wars" trilogy.

"It feels like if the Empire ever have a job vacancy, they go to the Royal Shakespeare Company to headhunt people," the helmer tells USA Today while talking about Krennic. "I like the idea that Ben's character was much more working-class 'and rose in the ranks' through sheer force of personality and ideas."

Therefore, Edwards asks Mendelsohn not to adopt "a very posh English accent." The helmer reveals that in the upcoming movie, the conflict will arise when Krennic "hits a brick wall in the hierarchy where they won't let him in the club and it's going to turn into a them-or-us situation: either Krennic or Tarkin and the others."

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is coming to U.S. theaters on December 17. The much-awaited "Star Wars" stand-alone movie also stars Felicity Jones as the main protagonist Jyn Erso. Other cast members include Diego Luna, Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Mads Mikkelsen, Jonathan Aris, Jimmy Smits, Genevieve O'Reilly and James Earle Jones.

The movie follows Jyn Erso, a Rebellion soldier and outlaw who is about to experience her biggest challenge when Mon Mothma (O'Reilly) gives her a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star. With the aid of the Rebels, a master swordsman and non-allied forces, Jyn will be in for something bigger than she thinks.
