AceShowbiz - Jack O'Connell has signed on to star in Pathe's untitled Alexander McQueen biopic centering on the legendary fashion designer. Variety brings the words that the 26-year-old actor will play the founder of British luxury fashion house Alexander McQueen in the movie which will be helmed by "45 Years" director Andrew Haigh.

Damian Jones of DJ Films will produce the biopic which is scheduled to begin filming next spring, with Pathe planning to release it by the end of 2017 in the U.K., France and Switzerland, and handling sales throughout the rest of the world. The distributor released a statement with more details about the movie on Tuesday, October 25.

"In 2009, Alexander McQueen put on one of his greatest shows - a stunningly beautiful re-working of his greatest designs from the past 15 years," it read. "It was a show that he dedicated to his mother and one in which he tried to make sense of his life and art."

"The film explores McQueen's creative process in the months leading up to the show, providing an intimate portrait of the man behind the global brand - a moving celebration of a visionary genius whose designs transcended fashion to become art."

McQueen was a chief designer at Givenchy from 1996 to 2001, before founding his own luxury fashion house in 2002. His achievements in fashion earned him four British Designer of the Year Awards and the CFDA's International Designer of the Year Award. In 2010, he committed suicide at the age of forty.

Meanwhile, O'Connell previously starred in Jodie Foster's "Money Monster" opposite George Clooney and Julia Roberts and in Angelina Jolie's "Unbroken". He can next be seen alongside Christoph Waltz and Alicia Vikander in "Tulip Fever" which is set for a February 24, 2017 release in U.S. theaters.
