AceShowbiz - Donald Glover is confirmed to portray young Lando Calrissian in "Han Solo" movie. Lucasfilm has officially announced via Starwars.com that the "Community" alum will star alongside Alden Ehrenreich, who is already on board to play the young version of Han Solo in the untitled stand-alone Star Wars film II.

"We're so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us," directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller said in a statement. "These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we'd like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever."

Fellow actor John Boyega also took to Twitter on Friday, October 21 to welcome Glover as the latest member in the galaxy far far away. The Finn of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" wrote, "Glover as lando! I'm PUMPED."

The Cloud City cassanova was originally portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in 1980's "The Empire Strikes Back" and 1983's "Return of the Jedi" alongside Harrison Ford's Han Solo and Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker. It was known that the iconic gambler had lost his starship Millenium Falcon to Han.

Plot details for the upcoming "Han Solo" movie are still kept under wraps, but it's described as an origin story about Han Solo and his best buddy Chewbacca. Lord and Miller will direct the movie from a screenplay written by Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon. Filming on the sci-fi flick is expected to begin early next year for a May 25, 2018 release in U.S. theaters.

Glover is best known for creating and starring on the critically acclaimed FX series "Atlanta". The 33-year-old actor recently finished filming his part in Tom Holland's "Spider-Man: Homecoming" which is set for a July 7, 2017 release.
