AceShowbiz - Alex Graves is expected to helm "Mulan (2019)". Deadline has reported that the "Game of Thrones" director is in early talks to sit behind the lens for Sony Pictures' version of the live-action adaptation based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan.

The studio is planning the project as an international/Chinese co-production, with Doug Belgrad co-financing as well as co-producing via his new banner 2.0 Entertainment. "Mirror Mirror" scribe Jason Keller is attached to write the script for the movie which will reportedly hit theaters long after Disney Studios' version.

Meanwhile, the Disney version of "Mulan" previously approached "Life of Pi" helmer Ang Lee, but he passed on the offer. Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver ("Jurassic World", "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes") are penning the screenplay for the movie which is slated to be released in U.S. theaters on November 2, 2018.

"Mulan" follows a young woman who disguises herself as a man so she can take her father's place in the army and go to war. With the help of her trusty dragon sidekick Mushu, she becomes a skilled warrior and, eventually, one of the country's greatest heroines.
