Paramount is teaming up with DiCaprio's Appian Way Productions for a live-action take on the 1990s cartoon series, with Jono Matt and 'Scream Queens' star Powell on board to pen the script.

AceShowbiz - "Captain Planet" movie is in the works at Paramount after Sony lost the rights to develop the project. The Hollywood Reporter bring the words that Paramount is teaming up with Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way Productions for a live-action take on the 1990s cartoon series.

Sources say that the studio is currently in talks for the rights to the original animated series. Jono Matt and "Scream Queens" star Glen Powell are attached to pen the script. Meanwhile, DiCaprio will serve as producer along with Jennifer Davisson Killoran through his production shingle.

No director has been announced. Plot details are not available as of now, but the story is said to take place "years after the adventures of the show, with the Captain now a washed-up has-been who needs the kids more than they need him."

Meanwhile, the original "Captain Planet and the Planeteers" series centers on five young people from around the world who are given magical rings that have the power to control natural elements. United, they can summon Captain Planet, a superhero who helps them fight against environmental evils.
