The small-screen sequel to Doug Liman's 2008 sci-fi movie will have a female hero instead of a male one like the original.

AceShowbiz - "Jumper" is getting a sequel and it's heading to the small screen in a TV series. Called "Impulse", the upcoming follow-up to the 2008 adaptation of Steven Gould's novel about a young man who is capable of teleporting has gotten a pilot order from YouTube Red.

The movie's original director, Doug Liman, is attached to helm and executive produce the project. Jeffrey Lieber ("Lost") is tasked with writing the script. Production is scheduled to kick off before the end of year.

It's unclear if any of the original cast that include Hayden Christensen, Rachel Bilson, Samuel L. Jackson and Jamie Bell will return for the TV sequel, but it's adapted from Gould's third book which follows the young daughter of Christensen's David.

"Steven Gould's sequel novel to 'Jumper,' 'Impulse', fully realizes the dynamic potential of this amazing franchise and I'm excited to have the large canvas of YouTube to bring it to life," Liman said in a statement.
