'Martin' Star Tommy Ford Dies at 52 After Hospitalized Due to Stomach Aneurysm

His family reportedly decided to remove him from life support on Wednesday afternoon after his health declined since he was hospitalized on Sunday.

AceShowbiz - Tommy Ford, best known for playing Tommy Strawn on 1990s sitcom "Martin", has died. He passed away Wednesday, October 12 in an Atlanta hospital surrounded by family and friends, his agent has confirmed. He was 52.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved Son, father, brother, husband, and friend Tommy Mykhal Ford," his family said in a statement. "On behalf of the family, we would like to thank everyone for their love, support and prayers. Funeral arrangements will be forthcoming. Please respect the privacy of the Ford family during our time of grief."

His public relations firm also announced the sad news on Twitter, "This evening at 4:50PM surrounded by family and close friends @BigTommyFord transitioned from this life to life eternal. #tommyford #RIP."

Tributes have since poured in from fellow celebrities. His "Martin" co-star Martin Lawrence told The Hollywood Reporter, "Tommy was not only a great costar, but he was a great man and friend. He always brought with him his spirituality, a positive attitude and so much joy. I am sad the world lost a great talent and that I lost a wonderful friend. God bless him and his family."

Steve Harvey tweeted, "This is terrible news, man. #RIP." Larry Wilmore posted on his own Twitter account, "This is really sad. Way too young. RIP Tommy."

The Roots' drummer Questlove wrote, "damn tommy. next to coming to america, i can't think of another single pop culture franchise i've referenced more in my life. thank you bro."

Vivica A. Fox also mourned the death of Ford. "NOOO! Just hearing about the passing of #TommyFord WOW! My heart is SOO sad RIP my friend! My deepest sympathies n prayers go 2 his family," she tweeted.

LL Cool J added, "The world is going to greatly miss all the joy and laughter that you brought to it. Thinking of Tommy Ford's family and friends today." Missy Elliott wrote, "There's not a episode of Martin I don't know!! I'm saddened to just hear about Tommy my prayers go out 2 his family & friends.. wow."

Ford had been hospitalized since Sunday after an aneurysm ruptured in his abdomen, TMZ reported earlier today. He was on life support and his health had declined ever since. TMZ reported later the same day that his family decided to turn off support on Wednesday afternoon.

Besides known as Martin Lawrence's on-screen best friend on "Martin", Ford had a recurring role as Mel Parker on sitcom "The Parkers". He also starred in the fourth and final season of FOX's cop drama "New York Undercover".
